Not Your Average Cup of Tea!

Let’s face it-America runs on coffee! If you’re a New Englander, you most likely have a Dunkin Donuts on almost every street corner. If you’re visiting on vacation; I can almost guarantee you’re smirking and nodding your head as you read along!

I can’t say you won’t find me in the DD drive through waiting for my caffeine fix mid day on the grind, but I will admit I’m not one to order anything to eat outside of munchkins for my little man. Microwavable eggs aren’t really my cup of tea. So I set out on a quest not only for a fresh cup of espresso to jump start my day, but a place where I can feel at home no matter if my hair is pulled back in a Saturday morning hangover ponytail or I’m dressed to impress with my briefcase in hand.

Well, I found all that and more at Uncle Jon’s Coffee & Café in Marion, less than 10 minutes from my house! I was more than excited when I pulled into a parking spot right in front of the spacious café and little did I know I was in for more than a delicious treat! The aroma of fresh baked goodies and java was enough to make my mouth water! This clean café is the perfect spot for anyone, whether you want a solo seat tucked away near the window, a table big enough to lounge with your friends and family, or a rendezvous away from the office with enough room for your coworkers and laptops.

I sat down and made myself right at home as I waited to meet with Uncle Jon himself. People watching over a cup of coffee is like eye candy for me so I was pleased to see a well dressed businessman reading a newspaper in the corner, a young woman studying her note cards, a couple of friends enjoying the free Wi-Fi, and a mom ordering freshly squeezed OJ and a smoothie for her two kids in tow.

Just when I thought this place couldn’t get any better, I took a look at the menu hosting a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps, paninis, soups, salads, and hot prepared meals made from scratch right in the café ready to take home or back to the hotel! Who wouldn’t want a homemade savory dish the whole family can enjoy without the hassle? I know I don’t mind zero cleanup after a long day!

Uncle Jon came out and greeted me with a welcoming expression and filled me in on his 21 years of hard work to provide a private and relaxed atmosphere for everyone. He explained his passion to serve many local communities on the South Coast whenever possible providing 100% free food and beverages for charities, parties, and events. He even allows the girl scouts to sell their cookies in the café!

“A cup above the rest!” – Uncle Jon

The sweet staff behind the counter agreed with Uncle John on the most popular Chai and Espresso based teas and lattes. I decided to grab the sealed fresh Thai Chicken Wrap to go, which came with a small bag of my favorite Cape Cod potato chips at a reasonable price. Confession- I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth in so I snuck a bite right in the parking lot!

So do yourself a favor and check out Uncle Jon’s Coffee & Café located at 350 Front St in Marion and 88 North Street in Mattapoisett. And don’t forget to grab a souvenir with Uncle Jon’s cool mermaid logo on the way out!
